Q21. How is AI changing the world of Immigration?
Decision Making, Immigration Fraud, Faster Processing:
Canadian Immigration Minister Sean Fraser, in May 2023, announced that the IRCC (Immigration department) will use AI (Artificial Intelligence) to process applications. They aim to fast track visa processing and other ways IRCC says it will take advantage of AI for tasks related to application processing:
- Automating positive eligibility determinations
- Distributing applications to different IRCC officers (based on the characteristics of the application)
- Identifying applications that may require additional verification
- Helping summarize basic client information through "annotations," intended to reduce officer searches in our Global Case Management System (GCMS)
- Assessing client emails for urgency to enable faster replies, and responding to applicable client enquiries by providing publicly available information
- Assessing biometrics
The Department will use AI to track unregistered agents, agencies, and consultants filing fake and fraudulent documentation.
